After a second wave of murders in 1968, got him his karma back as Ramakant Kulkarni, the Deputy Commissioner of Police CID (Crime) took over the investigation and arrested him successfully by spearheading a massive combing operation in the city.
A gangster and a serial killer from Tamil Nadu, Gowri Shankar aka Auto Shankar, was charged and tried for as many as 6 murders and got sentenced to death by the learned Sessions Judge, Chenglepat on 31-5-1991.
Gowri Shankar used to target young women by trapping them under false pretenses, finally murdering them in cold blood. However, his notoriety made this case one of the first high-profile serial killer executions in India.

Nithari Killings (2005)
A horrifying series of children’s murders shook the country in 2006 based on the brutal killings of Nithari including murder of around 19 women and children. The prime accused, Surinder Koli, not only murdered his victims but also engaged in cannibalism, consuming the flesh of those he had killed. Charles Sobhraj, also known as the Splitting Killer and the Serpent for how he could sense authorities to avoid and go on killing western tourists travelling in South and Southeast Asia. Charles killed around 20 tourists including 14 in Thailand, and was arrested in India from 1976-1997. Unlike other Killers, he did not get a life imprisonment, rather, he got released by the order of Supreme Court of Nepal on 23rd december, 2022 on account of his age and kind behavior.

India’s first documented female serial killer, but not one, two sisters Renuka Shinde and Seema Mohan Gaivit along with the assistance of their mother Anjanabai, were convicted of kidnapping 13 children and killing 5 of them eventually.
This brutal intent of Kidnapping children was planned to lead to theft, with the thief evoking sympathy or distracting the kidnapped child, who would later be killed.

Cyanide killer (2002-2016)
Jolly Joseph, another female serial killer from Kerala, is known to have murdered 6 people over 14 years between 2002 to 2016 exploiting vulnerable women for financial motive. Jolly Joseph was also known as Cyanide killer as she killed her victims by poisoning them with cyanide.The initial motive of the killings was of greed for family property but as the greed grew she even killed her 2 year old niece to marry her father. Deceased people were shockingly all her family members including her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, husband’s uncle, niece and the niece’s mother.
